I’ve designed advertising for 4 J’s Farm & Brewery since they first opened, which has given me a deep understanding of their brand and how it has grown over time. While they have strong logo work and a recognizable identity, the available visual assets are limited, and many of their ads over the years relied on the same background and layout. For this Readers’ Choice thank-you ad, I wanted to create something that felt fresh without losing the familiarity their audience recognizes.
Rather than introducing new imagery for the sake of change, I focused on what visually defines the brand: the beer itself. I selected two of their beers with the most contrasting colors to create immediate visual interest and built the concept around a shared, celebratory moment. The idea of a casual cheers felt natural for a brewery rooted in community and gathering.
To bring the concept to life, I worked within the available resources. We do not have a photographer assigned for ad work, and this project needed to move quickly, so I used existing beer imagery from 4 J’s website and worked with AI to generate a natural, celebratory cheers composition. It took several tries to achieve hands that felt believable and balanced. Once the base image was right, I refined the shading, depth, and subtle vignetting to ground the scene and draw focus toward the center.
The final layout introduced a new visual direction while staying true to the 4 J’s brand. By building the design around their product and a familiar gesture, the ad feels social, inviting, and celebratory. It refreshes the look without straying from what customers already associate with the brewery.
