To promote The Fauquier Times in a fun, lighthearted way on social media, I created a short video that showcased the team behind the paper — highlighting both their roles and their personalities.
This was my concept from the start. I developed the script format:
“I’m a [job title] for the Fauquier Times — of course I…”
I helped guide each staff member’s part, filmed their segments, and edited the final piece with fast cuts and a playful tone that captured the heart of our newsroom.
The biggest challenge was getting everyone on board — some staff were unsure of the concept or hesitant to appear on camera. But with a little direction (and humor), I brought out fun, on-brand moments: a newspaper tossed at a front door, papers flying in the air, and even a jab from our youngest designer about the “old people” in the office.
The video was a hit with our staff and captured our workplace culture in a way that was both relatable and unexpected. It was awarded First Place in the Virginia Press Awards for social media video — recognized for its creativity, tone, and originality.
